HIN UND ZURUCK &
LES MAMELLES DE TIRESIAS

HINDEMITH x POULENC

Within a tiny little Bavarian cuckoo clock, a domestic tragedy unfolds: Helene's affair is discovered by Robert and he shoots her dead. Then, as Robert turns the trigger on himself, time begins to reverse and the events roll back in a completely unexpected turn.

Somewhere in Zanzibar, the events depicted in this little clock shock Therese. She's sick and tired of playing the role of domestic housewife. What happens if she abandons her breasts and takes up a new role? Thus, Tiresias is born.

So unfolds the double bill of the German Hin und Zuruck and the French Les Mamelles de Tiresias being presented in sequence at the Peabody Opera Theatre of the Peabody Institute here in Baltimore, Maryland.
