THE RICE EATERS
BY YIDE CAI
Fan Gao, his family, and friends are Chinese workers trapped in a factory in Shenzhen's Da Feng village. Their job is to recreate Van Gogh paintings for their clients from Europe and all over the world. They can paint Starry Night in half an hour but get paid very little. They want to escape, paint their own works, and be free. When their number one buyer from Amsterdam threatens to end their orders, threatening the workshop's operations, the painters take matters into their own hands.
